A beautiful, peaceful place for couples in a remarkable location

This was truly a wonderful experience. The beautiful trullo house was fantastic, the pool wonderful, the location perfect and our hosts simply could not do enough for us. A great place for couples to explore the Puglia region of Italy.

A real wee gem!

Here my parting words in the trullo guestbook, still ringing true now that we're back in Freiburg: "In our nine days here my active vocabulary seems to have shrunk to exclamations of "wonderful, beautiful, heavenly (the pool, the pool...), perfect, adorable (our four-legged friends), fascinating (history of Andrew's family), amazing, oh look here!, wow...". It has all been said before, but simply has to be said again: Andrew and Jill, you are the perfect hosts, and Trullo Caterina a rea wee gem (I'm sure your mother would be delighted to know that she is remembered in this special way, Jill). Days filled with trips to the local towns, each one lovelier than we could possibly have imagined (Cisternino our authentic favourite, Locorotondu our "I've fallen in love with this place" favourite, and Matera simply breathtaking, walks and drives through the tiny lanes, especially in the evening light. Swimming in and lazing by the pool, also if it's only 17 degrees, and visiting "James'" olive oil factory. Days starting and ending with Charlie Pickles, Jake and Brumbles. We're leaving a little bit of our hearts here. I want a trullo in Freiburg!!". It's an absolutely wonderful home, with the warmest, kindest hosts. Jill also asked her friend for tips for our follow-on trip to Salento, and mailed us there to ask how our trip was going. We are so glad we made this choice out of so many others for our very first trip to Puglia. It won't be the last!

Puglian Paradise
We have just returned from our stay with Jill, Andrew and James at Trullo Caterina. What an incredible place. The Trullo is immaculate, beautifully restored, and offers everything you need for two. Brilliantly located a short taxi ride from Cisternino.. Our new favourite Italian town..and believe me we've seen a few. We spent our days relaxing by the pool, visiting places like Savelletri (amazing spaghetti alle Vongole), Ostuni, Ceglie Mesappica, or on o e of James' trips to the salumeria, frantoio or wine tasting at Upal. The local supermarket and shops in Cisternino have everything you could need. Thanks once again for a wonderful stay... We can't wait to see you all next August.

A fantastic experience
We have just come back from staying in Trullo Caterina. The Trullo is in a very good location for exploring this area, very central and easy to get about. We managed to get to many interesting sites, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Ostuni are all very close by and many more. Andrew, Jill and James are very good host suggesting various places to go, and James took us on a very good tour of local products and we also had a lovely meal that he arranged for us. The Trullo is set in a fantastic garden, very well maintained and extremely relaxing!! It also has a wonderful swimming pool which was very refreshing after a long walk. I highly recommend this Trullo a lovely place for total relaxation and amazing hosts.

Lovely trullo and gardens
As many others have already said this is a truely wonderful place for a relaxing holiday. Excellent hosts, accomodation and gardens. The local towns are very interesting and you are only 30 mins for the Coast. Torre Canne, Savellerti and Monopoli are great coastal places to visit and eat, especially in Seafood restaurants and cafes.. The nearby towns of Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni and Martina Franca are full of fantastic historical buildings, restaurants, bars, shops and cafes. Especially Martina Franca and Monopoli which I think are better than the more famous nearby town of Ostuni. Lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful, great setting and a fantastic place to go sight seeing or just sit and relax. Highly recommended.

Trullo Caterina
I'm quite a fussy traveller and spend a long time researching ideal holiday locations. This rental proved to be one of the best I have ever found. The lovely garden and pool area is an absolute haven of peace and the cottage beautifully renovated, clean and very well equipped with a nice terrace area for eating out. When we arrived everything had been perfectly prepared to welcome us - more like hotel service than a usual holiday rental! Ideally situated only 3km from Cisternino this trullo in the Itria valley is the perfect base to visit the beautiful surrounding villages, towns and beaches. Whether you prefer just to relax at the pool, or like visiting new places there is certainly enough to do in the area to keep you busy for one or two weeks. Jill and andrew are great hosts. They live on site, but know exactly how to provide the right balance - present when you need them, but never intruding. They gave us a lot of valuable tips for restaurants etc. which we would never have found without their help, and andrew even offered to take us on a hiking trip a good three hours drive from the trullo! That's service!

A perfect place to relax
Trullo Caterina was the ideal accommodation for our stay in Puglia. It is central to lots of beautiful villages and the coast, so seeing the surrounding area is easy. But it is the trullo itself - along with the gardens, pool, secluded and shady areas that make it a pure delight. Add to that some unobtrusive and generous owners and an extremely well-mannered and friendly dog... and you've got yourself a little bit of Italian paradise! Ciao Jil, Andrew, James and Charlie - hope we can come back and see you again sometime.

Simply the best
If you are looking to stay in a trullo in Puglia, look no further than Trullo Caterina; you will not do better. We stayed there for 9 super days and were very impressed with everything. The location is perfect; just outside the beautiful town of Cisternino which is about 1.5 miles distant. Cisternino itself is a beautiful Italian town completely unspoilt by tourists; white stone buildings and superb views over the surrounding countryside, lots of lovely bars and restaurants. The trullo was well appointed and very clean and when we arrived there were good stocks of food and basics available as well as 2 bottles of local wine! The bed was comfortable and there was free wifi available. The shower was good and there was always plenty of hot water. Outside the gardens were a credit to owner Andrew who has clearly perfected the art of stone walling! The extensive grounds were beautifully kept with aromatic shrubs and herbs; rosemary, lavender and basil were growing along the pathways within the olives and there were many pretty spots to sit. The pool was exceptional – deep at both ends so no wading through knee deep water for a swim. Above the pool was a perfect raised patio for sitting and eating with lovely views of Cisternino and surrounding countryside. So, you may think you could find this in many trullos in Puglia? Maybe. But what you would be hard pressed to find is the very generous and kind hospitality of the owners, Jill & Andrew and their son James. We had a puncture one day along a deserted country road. Unable to contact Hertz on their 24 hour line, we ran Jill, and Andrew arrived in a heartbeat and changed the wheel and made sure we got back on the road. Jill would leave freshly picked figs on our patio table which were quite delicious – together with her own roasted veggies. Their knowledge of the local area is excellent and James arranged trips for us to see local cheese being produced and to see an olive oil factory and we had the chance to test and buy some of the local products. We also got to see wine and salami production. It was fabulous. James also suggested a visit to the local grape festival on a Saturday night which was great fun with floats parading round a small local town together with live music, dancing and street food. They recommended restaurants, organised taxis, let us use their phone to sort out the puncture, and even took us out to local towns and unknown beaches when our car was being repaired! However, probably the best bit was the wonderful Charlie Pickles, their super dog who used to call each morning for tit bits but was always so well behaved! Book here – you won’t do better!

Trullo Caterina
We spent a perfect week in beautiful Caterina Trullo at the end of September. Jill and Andrew were wonderful hosts providing us with everything that we required from a very generous Welcome pack to giving us plenty of advice and recommendations to help us to make the most of our time spent in this beautiful region of Italy. The Trullo, gardens and pool were excellent and a credit to Andrew and Jill's hard work and ingenuity. Thoroughly recommend taking a tour with their son James to the local Wine, Mozarella and Olive oil factories which was both fun and informative. Would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful trullo set in peaceful countryside surrounded by picturesque towns and only a short drive to the coast. Thank you Jill, Andrew and James and also not forgetting Charlie Pickles!

Trullo Caterina
We stayed at Trullo Caterina in June and had a fantastic week. Jill, Andrew and James go to great lengths to make their guests feel welcome and are always willing to stop for a chat and to offer advice and information about the locality and to recommend restaurants. (and barbers). Trullo Caterina and its gardens are beautifully maintained with every thought being given to making this a perfect holiday destination. This was our first time in Puglia and hopefully not our last as we feel there's more we'd like to see.

Trullo Caterina
We spent a truly wonderful week's holiday in Puglia, with the benefit of the delightful hospitality provided by Jill, Andrew & James. Having travelled from a cold and wet London, we arrived at Trullo Caterina to experience our own little taste of paradise. The trullo gave us a great feeling of seclusion and our hosts provided us with some top class recommendations for day trips and more importantly those little local restaurants that we never would have found by ourselves. I won't say where they are ... you'll have to ask the hosts yourselves! The Trullo was in excellent condition, and along with the house, garden and pool, had been beautifully restored. It was a genuine pleasure to spend a week at the Trullo and to explore the locality. We have every intention of returning and taking Andrew up on his offer of baby sitting duties!

We would return tomorrow if we could !!

Everything we'd hoped for and more
Trullo Caterina was everything we'd hoped for and more, we were looking for a peaceful retreat after spending the previous week sightseeing in Rome and Venice and were not disappointed.
Perfect retreat for a relaxing and romantic honeymoonJul 2011
Wonderful place to stay
This is a wonderful place to stay that we would recommend to anyone - after a few days it really felt like home. The guest trullo is beside the owners' main house (also a trullo) on an elevated site in the countryside about 2 miles outside the small town of Cisternino - it is therefore perfectly quiet at night and we were never disturbed by any noise during the 9 nights we stayed there.

Trullo Caterina
We stayed from 22nd September to 5th October. Had perfect weather in a perfect location. The trullo is just the right size for two, very tastefully furnished with all one requires for self catering. It has fantastic views from the trullo itself and the extensive grounds, with the added bonus of a beautifully located small swimming pool. It is ten minutes by car from the centre of Cisternino and is well placed for day trips, or shorter ones to Lecce, Bari, Matera, Giovinazzo, Alberobello, Ostuni etc. It is also about 20 minutes to the nearest beach where we often stopped off at the end of our day trips. The surrounding countryside is very nice with many a thousand year old olive trees - amazing.
